Guided excursions
HSM group has a specialised service for excursions. Thanks to a trained program of carefully prepared and documented products, our multilingual guides make you discover multiple facets of the island. The cultural, historic and ecological heritage of Nosy Boraha is enhanced through different circuits.
Trekking inside the island
With its numerous shaded ways and paths through an omnipresent nature, Sainte Marie lends itself well to trekking. Where the charms of a luxuriant vegetation cuddle typical hamlets sheltered from modernity, landscapes offer scenographies fit to a fairy tale. You will progressively get in the deeps of the garden island where many discoveries are awaiting you.
Call at "Ile aux Nattes"
After a quick transfer by dugout or by motor-driven boat on the lagoon separating this island of 2 km of diameter from Sainte Marie Island, you will discover "Nosy Nanto", the small sister of the Boraha island, like a pearl in its emerald case. The island offers magnificent beaches of fine sand and one of the rarest orchids in the world grows there. With its lighthouse, its picturesque villages and its paths free from motor-driven vehicles, the place seems to be out of time. You will certainly feel like a "Robinson" there.
Ampanihy bay
Our car will bring you to the East of Boraha island, until this fine ten-kilometre lagoon which is edged of mangrove swamps. At its mouth , the sea stretch is supplied by an underwater soft water spring which according to a legend of Sainte Marie appeared thanks to the friendship between a man and a big fish. Further, the typical hamlet of Anafiafy constitutes a picturesque stopover. From there, you will have the pleasure to reach the peninsula, by dugout, on the calm water, while sailing under the mangroves which sometimes form a plant tunnel. Then, you will be able to cross the forest of Ampanihy which covers the dunes and to border the beautiful wild beach of the cove of Ankoalabe caressed by the winds of the Indian Ocean.
Whale-watching
Every year, during the southern winter, the island welcomes a spectacular ballet. Important groups of humpback whales (Megaptera) migrate from the Antarctic to this idyllic breeding place. These quiet giants find here good conditions to grow their young and to their love and acrobatic games before the big return toward the cold seas.
Scuba diving
Safe from sharks, the lagoon of Sainte Marie island is endowed with important coralline constructions. Its under water fauna and flora constitute a preserved natural heritage and a first-class diving site in the Indian ocean.
